Revolutionary Technology Helps Cosumnes Fire Department Improve Response Times and Safety for First Responders

Enhanced Emergency Response and Safety in Elk Grove Through New Technology

The Cosumnes Fire Department has introduced new technology in Elk Grove to improve response times and safety for first responders. Through the use of cloud-based technology LYT.emergency, emergency vehicles are able to travel more efficiently due to GPS location tracking, which allows traffic lights to change accordingly. This technology is being implemented on 43 traffic signals located on popular roads such as Laguna Boulevard, Bond Road, and Elk Grove Boulevard in order to minimize disruptions and make it safer for drivers to yield at intersections.

The pilot phase of this new technology will run for one year in order to evaluate its effectiveness as a long-term tool for first responders. Kevin McLean, First Battalion Chief of the Cosumnes Fire Department, emphasizes the importance of avoiding delays in emergency responses, as any delay can have a significant impact on the survivability rate of patients and victims. Funding for this technology comes from Measure E. Madisen Keavy reports on CBS13 weekdays.
