Revolutionary technology allows for safe and efficient remote piloting without the need for a physical pilot onboard ships

Danelec and Danpilot Introduce New Remote Piloting Technology

Danelec and DanPilot have announced a new technology integration during the European Maritime Day conference in Svendborg, Denmark. This partnership allows for safe piloting without the need for a pilot to physically board the ship. With this development, vessels can maintain their planned speed, which helps reduce fuel costs and enables ships to better meet scheduled arrival and departure times.

Danelec has been collecting vessel and navigation data for commercial vessels for three decades. Today, this data can be sent to the cloud and displayed in near real-time onshore, giving pilots access to the same information they would have if they were on the ship. This not only saves time and costs associated with boarding a vessel but also reduces the risk of accidents during pilot transfer.

The technology developed by Danelec supports remote piloting through the use of the Vessel Remote Server solution, which collects real-time data from the ship. One key feature of this remote piloting solution is that it empowers the decision-making abilities of the onboard crew instead of overriding them. The ship’s crew retains full control over the vessel, ensuring that operational command remains securely onboard and reducing the risk of external interference. This system also enables clear communication between shore-based pilots and the onboard crew, allowing for quick implementation of navigational commands sent by
