Revolutionary Sea Glider Poised to Change the Face of Coastal Transportation with Ambitious Expansion Plans

Hybrid Sea-Plane Ships as Potential Substitutes for Passenger Ferries

The sea glider, a revolutionary new mode of coastal transportation, is poised to change the way we travel around the world. Powered entirely by electricity and designed to glide just 30 feet above the water, this unique vehicle offers a smooth ride with less drag than conventional flight.

Regent, the Rhode Island startup behind the sea glider model, has ambitious plans for this innovative technology. CEO Billy Thalheimer aims to carry 12 passengers over a range of about 290 km and has already sold over 600 sea gliders, totaling more than $9 billion. The company plans to manufacture the vehicles in North America and recently signed an agreement with the Abu Dhabi government to build a second factory in the United Arab Emirates, expanding their reach to customers in the region and across Europe and Asia.

The concept of the sea glider builds on the “ground effect” principle tested by the Soviet Union in the 1960s. By staying close to the water’s surface, this vehicle reduces drag and improves energy efficiency, making it a viable option for coastal transportation. Regent has overcome challenges related to wave stability, portability, and safety to create a modern and efficient ground effects vehicle.

Regent plans to introduce larger sea glider models in the future, including the Viceroy and Monarch, capable of carrying more passengers over longer distances. The company is already working with airlines and ferry companies to implement sea gliders in various coastal regions around the world, offering a sustainable and efficient alternative to traditional transportation methods. With its innovative design and ambitious plans for expansion, Regent’s sea glider is set to revolutionize coastal transportation worldwide.
