Aberdeen Business Pitch Competition: Winner takes home $10,000 prize

The Aberdeen Development Corporation and Northern State’s Innovation and Startup Center are hosting a Business Pitch Competition that will award the winning entrepreneur $10,000. This timeless necessity for businesspeople seeking locations, sales opportunities, or financing has been revitalized with the goal of helping launch or scale up businesses in northeast South Dakota.

Mike Bockorny, CEO of Aberdeen Development Corporation, expressed excitement about taking the competition to a community-wide stage. He anticipates that many applicants will address community needs by offering services or retail options that do not currently exist. The application deadline is May 31, and the competition is open to anyone with a business idea or in the early stages of operating a business.

Bea Smith, NSU Innovation Center Director, explained that preliminary judges will select finalists who will then pitch their ideas to a second panel of judges at a community event open to the public. The presentation portion of the competition will take place at Engels Events Company on July 29.
