Revamping Workforce Training: Skills Capital Grants Boost High School and College Capacities in Technical Fields

Skills Capital Grant Funding Enhances Technology and Lab Spaces for Massachusetts Schools

The Healey-Driscoll Administration is awarding nearly $15 million in Skills Capital Grants to high schools, colleges, and educational institutions. These grants will upgrade technology and instructional lab spaces, expand career programs for young people and adults, ultimately increasing capacity in workforce training programs across the Commonwealth.

Kermit Dunkelberg, Assistant Vice President of Adult Education and Workforce Development at Holyoke Community College, emphasized the importance of having current equipment and lab spaces for students to be properly prepared for the workforce. “The Skills Capital Grants aim to provide students and adult learners with access to innovative technology, equipment, and spaces to gain the skills they need for successful careers in high-demand industries,” said Dunkelberg.

By modernizing and expanding instructional lab spaces, institutions like STCC and HCC can provide specialized training that is crucial for fields like healthcare and technology. These hands-on learning opportunities are essential for students to graduate not only with a degree but also with the necessary skills to enter the job market.

A total of $300,000 in grants will be used to support 65 high schools, colleges, and educational institutions in upgrading technology and lab spaces. By receiving these funds, these institutions can better prepare students for the job market in industries that require technical skills. For example
