Returning All-Star Tarik Cohen Signs with the New York Jets: A Comeback Story for the Ages

NY Jets bring on former All-Pro returner Tarik Cohen in NFL comeback attempt; expectations high for ex-Bears star

In 2024, the New York Jets are welcoming back another former All-Pro from a serious injury: Tarik Cohen. The Chicago Bears standout has signed a one-year deal with the Jets, joining Aaron Rodgers in their comeback efforts. Cohen, who is only 28 years old, has had a tough time returning to the field due to a series of injuries. He was an All-Pro and Pro Bowl honoree in 2018 but hasn’t taken an NFL snap since 2020 due to a torn ACL, MCL, and leg fracture. After being released by the Bears and not playing in 2021, he suffered an Achilles injury while working out as a free agent.

Now, Cohen has the opportunity to make the Jets’ roster as a reserve running back and special teamer, alongside Breece Hall and rookie fourth-round draft pick Braelon Allen. With the NFL making changes to kick return rules for 2024, Cohen could compete for snaps as a return man alongside wide receiver Xavier Gipson. Jets head coach Robert Saleh expressed excitement about adding Cohen to the team and highlighted the significance of kick returners touching the ball over 100 times a year under the new rules. Despite his injuries, Cohen showcased his versatility by approaching 1,600 all-purpose yards in each of his first two NFL seasons, proving his value as a pass catcher and return specialist despite his smaller stature at 5-foot-6 and 191 pounds.
