Resilience in Action: Palestinian Dentist’s Commitment to Care Despite Devastation and Challenges

Gaza dentist forced to treat patients in tent after clinic in Israel destroyed

In the aftermath of the Israeli bombing that destroyed his clinic in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian dentist Najdat Saqr remained steadfast in his determination to continue treating patients. Despite the devastation, he managed to salvage equipment and materials from the wreckage and set up a makeshift clinic in a tent in the Nuseirat refugee camp.

Despite facing numerous challenges such as a lack of electricity and water at the clinic, Saqr remained undeterred and continued to provide essential dental care to those in need. Endodontic treatment, which makes up most of his work, remains a top priority for him, even though he is running low on anesthesia.

Proudly displayed on the tent poles are Saqr’s vocational qualification certificates, which he managed to salvage from the rubble of his clinic. Despite the difficult circumstances, he remains determined to maintain the high standards of his practice and continue providing quality care to his patients.

Saqr’s unwavering dedication to his profession and his patients is truly inspiring. In spite of the obstacles he faces, he continues to serve the community and offer vital dental care to those in need. Through resilience and resourcefulness, Saqr has overcome adversity to ensure that his clinic continues to provide essential services to the people of Gaza.
