Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, California, will undergo significant upgrades before the Oakland Athletics begin playing there next season. League commissioner Rob Manfred recently revealed some of the planned improvements to ensure the ballpark meets MLB standards and can host big league games for several years.
The renovations include constructing a new home clubhouse, renovating the visiting clubhouse, installing new artificial turf, upgrading camera capabilities for broadcasts, and making revenue-associated renovations such as adding club seating and video boards. The A’s announced their partnership with Vivek Ranadive, owner of the Sacramento Kings, to temporarily play at Sutter Health Park from 2025 through at least 2027, with a fourth-year option in case the proposed Las Vegas ballpark isn’t ready by the 2028 MLB season.
However, before games can be played at Sutter Health Park, the MLB Players Association must approve the ballpark meeting league standards. Despite excitement about MLB games coming to Sacramento, much work remains to be done before the A’s can make the ballpark their temporary home. The upgrades and renovations at Sutter Health Park are aimed at ensuring that the facility is up to par for hosting major league games and providing fans with a quality experience.
