The Reno Air Races had a significant impact on the local economy, generating over $150 million in revenue, according to the Reno Air Racing Association. A study conducted by UNR’s Center for Regional Studies revealed that there were 80,434 non-Washoe County zip code attendees at the event, contributing to a total economic impact of $158,641,993 for northern Nevada. In total, the Reno Air Races saw 113,230 unique attendees.
Tony Logoteta, COO of the Reno Air Racing Association, expressed pride in the positive impact the event has had on the region over the past six decades. He highlighted the importance of strengthening the community and expressed gratitude for the support of fans that contributed to the economic benefit for the Reno community.
The study focused on the economic impact derived from non-Washoe County zip code attendees. Brian Bonnenfant, project manager for the Center for Regional Studies, emphasized the significant economic impact of the National Championship Air Races, noting that it consistently outperformed other special events held in Reno-Sparks. The event played a key role in the local tourism economy, provided exposure to the region and promoted aviation and aeronautics to future generations.
Unfortunately, The National Championship Air Races will be relocating to Roswell in 2025.
