Remembering Zamir: A Tragic Loss for Israel’s Youngest War Hero in Peru

Missing Traveler Oren Zamir’s Body Located in Peru

A 26-year-old Israeli youth was found deceased in the Huaraz region of northern Peru after he went missing during an adventurous trip several weeks ago. The young man had lost contact and his body was discovered during a search by the Israeli Embassy in Lima, along with the Magnus rescue company, and local authorities. The Department for Israelis Abroad is currently working with Zamir’s family to repatriate his body.

Zamir was a veteran industrialist from Jerusalem who had served in an elite unit in the IDF and fought bravely in the Iron Sword War for 161 days, losing 16 friends in the process. After returning from war, Zamir flew to Peru to explore the natural landscapes he loved before intending to return to combat with his unit. Zamir was deeply passionate about Israel and had volunteered extensively in agriculture, as a road teacher, and in educational work with children. He was also a beloved martial arts instructor and mentor to many. People who knew him described him as a kind, knowledgeable, and joyful person whose presence in their lives was considered a privilege.
