Darren Dutchyshen, a beloved television sports anchor for Canada’s The Sports Network, has passed away at the age of 57. The Dutchyshen family announced his passing, stating that he was surrounded by loved ones and maintained his sharp wit until the end, delivering jokes that were both good and inappropriate.
Dutchyshen had been the host of TSN’s Sportscentre show since 1995 but had to reduce his on-air duties in 2021 after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. TSN has not disclosed the cause or location of his death. Stewart Johnston, senior vp sales & sports at Bell Media, TSN’s parent company, paid tribute to Dutchyshen, calling him a legend of Canadian sports broadcasting with a great sense of humor and energy that connected with viewers.
Throughout his almost 30-year tenure at TSN, Dutchyshen became a familiar face behind the Sportscentre desk alongside co-anchors Rod Smith and Jennifer Hedger. He also hosted Olympic Prime Time during the 2010 Vancouver Games and 2012 London Games. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, and raised in Porcupine Plain, Dutchyshen began his broadcasting career in Saskatoon and continued on to Dauphin, Manitoba
