Red Sox’s O’Neill and Pivetta Provide Encouraging Updates Ahead of Cleveland Series

Red Sox receive positive update on Tyler O’Neill’s injury status

The Red Sox received some encouraging news on Monday as manager Alex Cora provided updates on both Tyler O’Neill and Nick Pivetta. O’Neill, who sustained an injury after colliding with Rafael Devers on Sunday, may not need to go on the injured list. Cora stated that O’Neill avoided a concussion and received stitches above his left eye, but is expected to miss the next two games before returning to the lineup on Thursday.

Despite the scary collision, Devers was able to avoid injury and is in the lineup for Tuesday’s game. He remained in Monday’s game after the incident with O’Neill. O’Neill has been a standout player for the Red Sox this season, with impressive offensive numbers through the first 17 games. He is currently tied for the MLB lead in home runs with seven.

Cora also provided an update on starting pitcher Nick Pivetta, who is recovering from a flexor strain. Pivetta has been playing catch for the past three days as he works his way back to full strength. The Red Sox will be looking to bounce back from a loss in Game 1 of their series against Cleveland as they continue their four-game set.
