Record Job Creation in April Despite Unusual Easter: 200,000 New Jobs, Lowest Unemployment Rate in 16 Years

Spain surpasses 21 million Social Security affiliates for the first time

Despite Easter not falling in April, the labor market saw record results that month. Over the course of four weeks, 200,000 new jobs were created, with almost half of them in the hospitality sector. This led to the number of average Social Security affiliates surpassing 21 million for the first time since records began in 2001, a significant milestone. Additionally, 60,500 people found employment, reducing the total number of unemployed to 2,666,500, the lowest figure in 16 years.

The labor market also saw an increase in self-employed workers, with 12,000 new registrations in April. This brought the total number of self-employed workers to 3,364,938, the highest number in 16 years. Overall, April was a strong month for the labor market and it shows significant job creation and a reduction in unemployment across various sectors and regions.
