This week, The Courier Journal has chosen several standout nominees for its girls athlete of the week, with impressive performances on softball diamonds and lacrosse fields. Voting is now open for this prestigious award, and the poll will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, with the winner being announced on Friday.

Among the nominees is Aubrey Batts from Oldham County, who had a remarkable week with four hits, including two home runs, seven RBIs, and one stolen base in victories against Assumption, Eastern, and Great Crossing. Another outstanding candidate is Kadie Bosemer from North Oldham, who had three hits, including two home runs, and four RBIs in wins over South Oldham, Trimble County, and Simon Kenton.

In lacrosse news, Christian Academy’s senior Bree Emerson scored seven goals and picked up one groundball in a win over North Oldham. Mercy’s junior Caillin Heintz also gave an exceptional performance with four goals and three assists in a 13-7 victory over Atherton. Eva Hidrogo from Portland Christian recorded three wins and 39 strikeouts against LKY-Louisville home school, Central, and Cornerstone Christian. She also had five hits and three RBIs during the week.
