Record-breaking Lopez Wins 12th Hyundai Archery World Cup Title in Return to Form

Lopez claims victory for the 12th time, while Sullivan secures first-ever podium finish

In the second stage of the 2024 Hyundai Archery World Cup, Sara Lopez and Sawyer Sullivan emerged victorious in the compound events, securing their spots in the season-ending finale and claiming the top spots on the podium at Jinho International Archery Field in Yecheon, Korea. This marked Sullivan’s first stage win of her career and Lopez’s 12th – but her first since 2021.

Sullivan expressed her excitement and gratitude for her win, thanking her loved ones who encouraged her to pursue her passion for archery. Lopez tearfully listened to the Colombian anthem play, sharing how she had lost her previous joy and was now rediscovering her old self.

Lopez’s recent victory showcased her return to form, reminiscent of her dominant performance in the mid-2010s when she excelled internationally and set records as the world’s top-ranked archer. She changed the landscape of compound women’s archery, setting a high standard with each competition.

Lopez defeated top-seed Han Seungyeon in the semifinal with a score of 149 and confidently won the final against Andrea Becerra with a score of 146-144. With this win, she became the first reigning Hyundai Archery World Cup Champion to secure a spot in this year’s final event taking place in Tlaxcala in October.
