Record-Breaking Holiday Week at Denver International Airport: How Technology and Planning Can Help Expedite Your Travel

Denver International Airport is set to have its busiest holiday week on record, with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) anticipating an average of 85,000 passengers per day from June 28 to July 8. On June 30, security workers screened over 86,000 people at the airport, making it their fourth busiest day.

CBS Colorado’s First Alert Traffic Tracker Reporter Brian Sherrod toured the airport with TSA officials to showcase the technology being used to expedite the screening process. Face recognition machines are now being utilized at security screenings, scanning government IDs for basic information such as name and age, revealing boarding information within 10 seconds. Denver International Airport is one of the first in the country to implement this technology.

Despite these advancements in technology, common mistakes by travelers can still lead to delays. For example, passengers not having their IDs readily available for inspection and carrying prohibited items in their bags can cause delays. Lorie Dankers, a spokeswoman for TSA Colorado, emphasized the importance of allowing ample time for the unexpected during travel to avoid feeling rushed or stressed.

To ensure a smooth travel experience during this busy period, travelers are advised to check their flight status before arriving and plan to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flight.
