Record-Breaking Feats on Mount Everest: Kami Rita Sherpa and Kenton Cool’s Achievements Highlight the Dangers and Majesty of the World’s Tallest Mountain

On Sunday, record-breaking climbs took place on Mount Everest as two notable climbers achieved remarkable feats. Kami Rita Sherpa, a 54-year-old Nepali sherpa, surpassed his own previous record by completing his 29th climb of the world’s tallest mountain. Meanwhile, Kenton Cool from the UK set a new record for a foreigner with his 18th summit on Everest.

Kami Rita Sherpa has been guiding climbers up Mount Everest for over 20 years and reached the summit on Sunday morning. His incredible achievements have earned him recognition and respect from both the climbing community and local authorities. The climbing season on Everest has just begun, and it is expected that hundreds of climbers will make the journey over the next few weeks.

Local authorities confirmed that Kenton Cool also reached the summit on Sunday. He is a mountaineering guide himself and has downplayed his achievements in the past, emphasizing the incredible feats of the Sherpas who have made more ascents than him. The woman with the most climbs of Mount Everest is Lhakpa Sherpa, who completed her world-record 10th climb in 2022 through crowd-funding.

Nepal’s government has issued approximately 400 mountaineering permits for climbers this spring season, which runs from April to June. Almost all climbers are accompanied by a local guide, meaning around 800 people are expected to attempt the ascent this year. Despite more than 600 successful summits last year, it was also one of the deadliest climbing seasons on record, with 18 recorded deaths on the mountain.
