The 2024 London Marathon was a spectacle of athletic prowess, with record-breaking performances in both the men’s and women’s categories. In the women’s race, Peres Jepchirchir from Kenya set a new world record by finishing in 2:16:16, just ahead of Tigst Assefa from Ethiopia who came in second with a time of 2:16:23. Joyciline Jepkosgei from Kenya rounded out the top three in 2:16:24. Other notable runners included Megertu Alemu from Ethiopia, Brigid Kosgei from Kenya, and Sheila Chepkirui from Kenya.
The men’s category saw some impressive results as well, but it was the women’s wheelchair category that truly stole the show. Catherine Debrunner from Switzerland took home first place with a time of 1:38:54, followed closely by Manuela Schar from Switzerland and Tatyana McFadden from the USA. In the men’s wheelchair event, Marcel Hug from Switzerland came in first with a time of 1:28:35, ahead of Daniel Romanchuk from the USA and David Weir from Great Britain.
Overall, the 2024 London Marathon showcased some incredible athletic performances and highlighted the talent and dedication of runners from around the world.
