Toni Kroos of Germany to Retire from Football Following Euro 2024

Toni Kroos, the 34-year-old German international midfielder who has been playing for Real Madrid since 2014, has announced his retirement from all football after Euro 2024. On Instagram, he revealed that his career as an active footballer will come to an end after the Euro championship this summer.

Kroos has had a successful career with Real Madrid, winning the Champions League multiple times and domestic league titles with both the club and his former team Bayern Munich. He is known for his formidable partnership with Luka Modric in the midfield, and he has been praised by Real Madrid for his contributions to their success.

Despite initially announcing his retirement from international football in July 2021, Kroos decided to continue playing until Euro 2024 following discussions with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann. With 108 caps and 17 goals for Germany, Kroos was instrumental in their World Cup victory in 2014 but experienced disappointment in subsequent tournaments. He returned to the national team at Nagelsmann’s request to lead Germany in Euro 2024.

Reflecting on his decision to retire, Kroos expressed his contentment with the timing and his ability to choose when to end his career at its peak performance level. He emphasized his pride in making the decision on his own terms and looks forward to his final competitions before bidding farewell to professional football.
