Ravens Running Back Keaton Mitchell’s Early Return from Torn ACL Promises to Strengthen Backfield Depth

Keaton Mitchell’s Return Is Far From Imminent

Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell is currently in the process of recovering from a torn ACL, which he sustained during a game against the Jaguars in December. Despite still having several months of rehabilitation ahead, Mitchell is making progress in his recovery.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh noted that Mitchell’s return won’t be immediate, as it will likely be sometime during the upcoming season. However, Harbaugh expressed optimism about Mitchell’s progress, stating that he may even be ahead of schedule. Mitchell will soon begin running on an anti-gravity treadmill, which is seen as a positive step in his recovery.

Mitchell, who signed with the Ravens as an undrafted rookie in 2023, made his debut in Week 6 last season and showcased his talent by rushing for 138 yards and a touchdown in just nine carries. Throughout his rookie season, he totaled 396 rushing yards with two touchdowns and caught nine passes for 93 yards. With the offseason addition of Derrick Henry, Mitchell is projected to be one of the primary backup running backs alongside Justice Hill.

The Ravens also drafted Rasheen Ali from Marshall University in the fifth round, adding depth to the running back position. Despite the challenges of recovering from a significant injury, Mitchell’s progress and positive attitude indicate that he is on the right track to return to the field.
