Ras Al Khaimah Hospital Reveals Record Participation and Weight Loss Results in Annual Challenge

72% of students in UAE face obesity in ‘Weight Loss Challenge’

Ras Al Khaimah Hospital recently announced the results of “The Greatest Weight Loss Challenge” 2024, an annual social responsibility initiative organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Community Protection. The competition aims to educate participants and motivate them to reduce their weight. This year, over 18,000 people from across the Emirates participated in the challenge, with half of them being residents of Ras Al Khaimah.

The challenge revealed that the weight of the heaviest participating children was 178 kilograms, and 72% of the students registered were overweight. The hospital held an award ceremony at its main headquarters where 24 winners from individual categories, one winner from the institutions category, and two winners from the schools category were honored.

On average, each participant reduced 9 kilograms of weight. In the men’s physical challenge category, Pakistani Anwar Ali won first place by losing 30.2 kilograms and received a cash prize of 9,000 dirhams. In the women’s category, Mohsana Kalisam emerged as the winner after losing 23.3 kilograms of weight.

Dr. Reza Siddiqui, CEO of the hospital commended the dedication of the winners and expressed his commitment to supporting community health and quality of life. In future sessions, he plans to introduce a new category specifically for schools emphasizing good health from an early age and promoting healthy lifestyles.

Ras Al Khaimah College of Dental Sciences emerged as winners in institutional teams’ category while Exemplary English School won in schools staff’s category and student body mass index emerged as winners in student categories respectively.
