Top insider Ian Rapoport has secured a new deal with the NFL Network, continuing his coverage of the league. NFL Vice President of Communications, Alex Riethmiller, expressed excitement about having Rapoport on board as he provides fans with the most reliable source of NFL news in the industry.
Rapport has been a part of the network for 12 years and competes with ESPN’s Adam Schefter in breaking news. However, discussions about a potential partnership between the NFL and ESPN continue to be up in the air. The NFL has been considering taking a minority equity stake in ESPN, which would result in assets like NFL Network falling under Disney’s umbrella while maintaining NFL Films under its own roof. Despite ongoing talks about the network’s future and potential bidders, it remains focused on restructuring and becoming more efficient in the meantime.
As a cost-cutting measure, Good Morning Football was put on hiatus and relocated from New York to Los Angeles for a restart in late August. Only host Jamie Erdahl confirmed she will remain on the program as it transitions to the West Coast. Recent layoffs of top on-air personalities like Andrew Siciliano, Melissa Stark, Will Selva, and James Palmer have not affected Rapoport’s role as a key figure in draft coverage and beyond.
