A man in North Charleston is facing serious charges after a stabbing incident at a vape shop over the weekend. The suspect, Francis Devonte Cooper, 31, has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, assault on a police officer while resisting arrest, and assault on a Police K-9.

The incident took place at 5900 Rivers Ave. on Saturday at around 2:30 p.m. The victim, who was the owner of the vape shop, sustained stab wounds above his ear and near his elbow. He told officers that Cooper entered the shop and began arguing with him before attacking him with a long pipe and a knife. Cooper then fled the scene, leaving behind his shoe and glasses.

Surveillance footage showed Cooper entering another business where he abandoned his remaining shoe and jacket. Employees were able to identify him as a regular patron. Police were able to track Cooper to his mother’s address in North Charleston, where they attempted to make contact with him.

During the arrest attempt, Cooper resisted and was bitten by a police K-9. He also allegedly hit the dog and bit a police officer’s hand before being taken into custody. He is now being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center on a $225,000 bond as investigations continue into this incident of violence against an innocent business owner
