Rahm Forced to Withdraw from LIV Golf Houston, Raises Concerns about U.S. Open Availability

Jon Rahm pulls out of LIV Golf Houston tournament because of foot injury

On Saturday, the LIV Golf Houston event cut short Jon Rahm’s participation, causing concerns about his availability for the upcoming U.S. Open. During the first round on Friday, Rahm appeared to be in pain and limping after a swing, but he continued to play and finished with a 3-under-par 69.

Unfortunately, the cut on Rahm’s foot became infected and he had to withdraw midway through the second round on Saturday, despite playing six holes. He remained at 3-under, while Louis Oosthuizen also withdrew due to a lower back injury.

Rahm is a 29-year-old golfer who has won both the 2023 Masters and the 2021 U.S. Open and is currently ranked seventh in the Official World Golf Ranking. Although he did not perform well at this year’s Masters or PGA Championship, the LIV Golf Houston event was seen as a crucial warm-up for the upcoming U.S. Open, where he is considered one of the top-10 betting favorites.

Since joining LIV Golf last December, Rahm has consistently finished inside the top 10 in all seven events he has participated in and has two third place finishes under his belt. Despite not yet securing a victory in an LIV Golf event, he currently sits in second place in individual points standings and leads his team Legion XIII on tour as its captain. Along with him are 11 other LIV Golf players set to compete in this year’s U.S Open at Pinehurst North Carolina which will be held from June 8th to June 14th
