Drivers trapped in Starnberg due to storm (Bavaria)

Starnberg was hit with violent storms that resulted in flooding throughout the city. A massive thunderstorm front moved across southern Bavaria from Munich, causing hailstorms and heavy rainfall. The fire departments were extremely busy, with over 50 missions. In just five minutes, up to seven liters of water per square meter fell, leading to flooded basements, impassable streets, and stranded drivers.

The district town of Starnberg was particularly affected, with some streets having to be closed due to the floods. The B2 road at the Maxhof roundabout and the A 952 in Starnberg were temporarily impassable, causing a backup on the A 952 for kilometers. The sewerage system was overwhelmed by the masses of water, and mud even shot onto the streets in Sensau. Other areas, such as Pöcking, also required the deployment of the fire brigade to address flooding.

To address the situation, neighboring fire departments came to Starnberg to provide support. The district fire inspection set up its operations center in the district office. Fortunately, no injuries were reported; however, the storm forced the cancellation of the French Week opening in Starnberg. The intense storms disrupted daily life in Starnberg; however, thanks to the collective efforts of the fire departments and emergency responders, the situation was brought under control without any casualties.
