Racism in IndyCar: Agustin Canapino Sits Out Road America Race Amidst Online Abuse and Harassment

After a tumultuous week, Agustin Canapino has decided to sit out this weekend’s IndyCar race at Road America. The decision comes after an incident with Arrow McLaren’s Theo Pourchaire at the Detroit Grand Prix and the subsequent online backlash that ensued.

Juncos Hollinger Racing (JHR) released a statement expressing concerns about the online abuse and harassment that Canapino and the team have faced, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the safety and well-being of all competitors. JHR co-owner Brad Hollinger expressed sadness over the events leading to Canapino’s absence and reiterated that online abuse is unacceptable.

In order to address these issues and foster a more welcoming environment for all fans, drivers, and team members in the IndyCar community, JHR is working with IndyCar. Nolan Siegel, an Indy NXT title contender, will step in to make his second points-paying IndyCar start in Canapino’s place in the No. 78 Chevy.

This situation is ongoing and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
