Race of Morocco: 2024 Kumho FIA TCR World Tour Resumes with Full-Throttle Action in Marrakech

Next Stop: Marrakech on the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour

This weekend, the 2024 Kumho FIA TCR World Tour resumes with the Race of Morocco at the Circuit Moulay El Hassan in Marrakech. The event marks the first touring car race held at the circuit since 2019 and will feature full-time World Tour drivers along with a few special guests.

Norbert Michelisz currently leads the points standings after a strong performance at Vallelunga, where he secured pole position and victory in Race 1 driving his BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse Elantra. His teammate, Mikel Azcona, sits closely behind in the standings after finishing fourth in both races. The GOAT Racing Honda pair of Marco Butti and Esteban Guerrieri are currently in third and fourth place, tied on points after making a strong start to the season.

Lynk & Co Cyan Racing is looking to improve their performance after a mixed start to the season, with Yann Ehrlacher and Santiago Urrutia achieving the best results for the team so far with a pair of second-place finishes. The circuit in Marrakech holds special significance for the team as it is where their Lynk & Co 03 TCR made its debut in 2019, with Thed Björk claiming a victory for the manufacturer.

Volcano Motorsport’s two Audi RS 3 LMS cars will be back in action at the Race of Morocco, with local hero Sami Taoufik and teammate John Filippi behind the wheel. The drivers will be aiming for a stronger performance compared to their races at Vallelunga, where Taoufik was involved in two incidents in the early stages of both races.

Two guest drivers will be joining the field for this event: Dušan Borković, who won TCR Eastern Europe Championship title last year, will drive for GOAT Racing in TCR Europe this year and make one-off appearance at this race; Mehdi Bennani, Moroccan star driver who won TCR Europe title last year will drive new CUPRA Leon VZ car for Team Clairet Sport seeking his first win front of his home crowd.

The field will be completed by two additional cars: one Honda run by GOAT Racing for Victor Fernández and one Audi driven by Endurance racer Julien Piguet
