Putin Pays Homage to WWII Heroes on Great Patriotic War Anniversary.

On the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, Putin honors the fallen at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with flowers

On June 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin honored the sacrifices of those who fought to defend their country during World War II by laying flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow’s Alexander Garden. This ceremony is typically attended by war veterans, government officials, and servicemen who also pay their respects at the Eternal Flame Memorial and the memorials in the Alley of Hero Cities and Cities of Military Glory.

The significance of this day stems from the early morning of June 22, 1941, when Nazi Germany launched a surprise attack on the Soviet Union, marking the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. In 1992, the Supreme Council of Russia declared this day as a day of remembrance for those who defended their motherland. In 1996, it was further designated as the Day of Remembrance and Mourning.

Putin’s gesture serves as a reminder that we must never forget those who gave their lives to protect our nation. It is a time to reflect on the immense loss and suffering experienced by our people during this difficult period in history. As we honor those who fought bravely against tyranny and oppression, we must also strive to build a better future where peace and prosperity reign supreme.
