PSG’s Thwarted Attempt to Sign Barcelona’s Defense Prodigy: Another Chapter in Their Ongoing Transfer Market Rivalry

PSG’s unsuccessful bid to acquire Barcelona’s defensive prodigy

The rivalry between FC Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain has extended beyond the pitch, with PSG targeting Barcelona’s players in the transfer market. Most notably, PSG was successful in signing Neymar and Ousmane Dembele, which had significant impacts on the Catalan club. Recently, PSG attempted to sign Barcelona’s defensive prodigy Lamine Yamal, offering €200 million, but this offer was rejected. Plans for a future offer of €250 million are in the works.

In addition to Yamal, PSG had their eye on Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi before his contract renewal. Cubarsi’s previous release clause was a mere €10 million, which could have been a steal for the French club. However, Cubarsi’s commitment to Barcelona led him to extend his contract, increasing his release clause to €500 million, deterring any further interest from PSG.

With Cubarsi now secured at Barcelona until 2027, the Catalan club can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that PSG’s attempts to disrupt their squad have been thwarted. The failed attempt to sign Barcelona’s defensive prodigy is just one of many instances of this ongoing rivalry between the two clubs in the transfer market.
