Pro Bowl Safety Tashaun Gipson Suspended for Six Games Due to Performance-Enhancing Drug Violation, Missing Key Games in Free Agent Season

Former 49ers safety Tashaun Gipson suspended for 6 games by NFL for violating PED policy

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Tashaun Gipson, a former safety for the San Francisco 49ers, has been suspended by the NFL for six games due to a violation of the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. The specific details of the violation have not been disclosed.

Gipson, a former Pro Bowler, played a significant role as a full-time starter for the 49ers over the past two seasons. In 33 games he played for San Francisco, he accumulated 60 tackles, one sack, one interception, and three passes defended in the 2023 season when the team made a Super Bowl run. In the 2022 season, he recorded five interceptions and eight passes defended.

Despite his contributions to the team, Gipson played on a one-year deal worth $2.9 million last season which was not extended by 49ers as they chose not to renegotiate his contract. As a result of this decision, Gipson is currently a free agent as the NFL enters its summer break between offseason activities and training camp. The suspension may hinder his chances of finding a new team before the upcoming season begins as teams may be less inclined to sign a player who will miss the first six games.
