Prince Faisal Calls for Respect for ICJ Ruling on Israel, Urges Immediate Negotiations for Palestinian State

Saudi Arabia criticizes Israel for lack of understanding from its leaders

During a speech in Brussels, HH Prince Faisal bin Farhan highlighted the importance of upholding the legitimacy of international institutions, particularly in relation to a ruling by the International Court of Justice ordering Israel to stop fighting in Rafah. He emphasized the significance of implementing ICJ rulings and sending a signal to Israel that it cannot act with impunity and must respect efforts to establish a Palestinian state.

Prince Faisal criticized Israeli leadership for refusing to discuss the recognition of a Palestinian state, arguing that this benefits both parties in the long run. He reiterated the Arab League’s call for immediate negotiations on releasing abductees in Gaza and expressed concern over Israel’s failure to grasp this concept. The Saudi Foreign Minister called on Israel to cooperate with the international community to establish a Palestinian state based on 1967 borders.

Prince Faisal welcomed Spain, Ireland, and Norway’s steps towards supporting the two-state solution and urged Israel to acknowledge Palestinians’ right to self-determination. He stressed that this fundamental principle enshrined in the UN Charter cannot be ignored. The Foreign Minister concluded his speech by emphasizing that mutual security and stability can only be achieved if Israel recognizes the existence of a Palestinian state.
