Prime Minister Pashinyan’s Unplanned Landing in Vanadzor Raises Safety Concerns for Helicopter Travel

Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan was on his way to visit the Baganis region bordering Azerbaijan when he had to make an unplanned landing in Vanadzor. The helicopter encountered poor visibility and had to land in a small stadium covered with dense clouds.

In a video released by Prime Minister Pashinyan, he is seen greeting soldiers at the airport and boarding the Mi-8/17 helicopter of the Armenian Air Force. He reassured the public that everything was fine and that he would continue his travel by car, wishing everyone a good day.

The incident occurred just a week after a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and several officials crashed into a mountain in dense fog, resulting in the death of all 9 people on board. The safety of helicopter travel in challenging weather conditions has once again come into question.
