Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Third Term: An Achievement for India’s Foreign Policy and Regional Cooperation

Narendra Modi is set to be sworn in as Prime Minister for a third consecutive term on Saturday. This follows his allies selecting him as their leader during a crucial meeting in Delhi. The event will be attended by leaders from South Asian countries as part of the government’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.

Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have confirmed their participation at the ceremony. Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s office announced that he has accepted the invitation and extended his congratulations to PM Modi. Similarly, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, is also expected to attend the event after being among the first foreign leaders to congratulate PM Modi.

The Prime Ministers of Nepal, Bhutan, and Mauritius have also received formal invitations to the ceremony. Reports suggest that these leaders will be present in New Delhi to witness PM Modi being sworn in for his third term. The BJP, leading the NDA coalition, secured a comfortable majority in the recent elections.

Despite falling short of the majority mark in 2014, SAARC leaders attended PM Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. In 2019, BIMSTEC leaders will be present at the oath ceremony. This participation highlights the strong diplomatic ties between India and its neighboring countries.

PM Modi’s re-election marks a significant achievement for India’s foreign policy goals and strengthens its position as a major global power. His leadership has been instrumental in promoting India’s interests on the international stage and has helped build closer ties with countries in South Asia and beyond.

As India prepares for its next phase of economic growth and development, it is important for its neighbors to continue supporting its efforts and working closely together towards common goals
