Prithviraj Chavan criticizes Modi government over missed opportunity to be 3rd largest economy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will campaign for NDA candidates in the city on April 29. Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan has criticized the BJP’s claims of ‘extraordinary economic growth’ under PM Narendra Modi. According to Chavan, if the BJP-led government had maintained the economic growth achieved during the UPA government under PM Manmohan Singh’s tenure, India would now be the world’s third largest economy.

Chavan pointed out that the current government’s faulty economic policies, such as demonetisation, flawed implementation of GST, and sudden lockdown during the pandemic, have hindered economic growth. He also criticized PM Modi for making false assurances during elections, such as bringing back illicit money from overseas banks within 100 days and creating two crore jobs annually, which have not been fulfilled.

Furthermore, Chavan mentioned that the government’s ban on exports has led to a decline in farmers’ income, despite assurances of higher minimum support prices for agricultural produce. He accused the BJP of taking revenge on farmers who protested against the farm laws. The revelations regarding electoral bonds have also raised concerns about the BJP raising money through suspicious means.
