Premier Punditry: Amazon Courts Mourinho to Boost Champions League Coverage

Jose Mourinho considering joining Amazon’s Champions League coverage

Jose Mourinho is currently in talks with Amazon about joining their live Champions League coverage for the upcoming season. The popular streaming service has secured the rights to broadcast 17 live Champions League games for the next three years, with the first choice match in each round. They are looking to revamp their punditry team and have set their sights on Mourinho.

Since being sacked by Roma in January, the former Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham boss has yet to receive any substantial job offers aside from those from clubs in the Saudi Pro League. However, Amazon’s deal includes rights to the Tuesday night matches and the Saturday evening final of the Champions League, with a focus on clubs like Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and newcomers Aston Villa. This would undoubtedly enhance Amazon’s overall coverage of the competition.

Meanwhile, TNT Sports will continue broadcasting the remaining 187 games, having held exclusive UK rights since 2015. Amazon’s current contract for broadcasting 20 Premier League games per season is set to expire at the end of next season. Securing Mourinho for their Champions League coverage would add prestige to Amazon’s offerings, given his past successes in the competition with FC Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010.

Gabby Logan is expected to anchor Amazon’s coverage this season as she has experience hosting their Premier League matches. Adding Mourinho to their punditry team would undoubtedly enhance its quality and appeal.

It remains unclear whether Mourinho will accept Amazon’s offer or if he will pursue another managerial position before next season begins.
