Pregnant Woman in Czech Republic Loses Baby Due to Doctor’s Mix-Up with Patients

A pregnant woman in the Czech Republic lost her fetus after doctors mistakenly performed an operation on her, as reported by Meduza and cited by CNN Prima News. The incident occurred at the Bulovka University Hospital in Prague.

The pregnant woman had come in for a routine examination and was healthy, but was mistakenly identified as the patient needing the operation. Meanwhile, the other patient who actually required the operation arrived at the same time. Both patients were foreigners permanently residing in the Czech Republic, but their names were not disclosed. Due to a failure to comply with internal regulations, the operation was initiated with the incorrectly identified patient.

The hospital issued an apology to the pregnant woman who lost her fetus and promised to provide compensation. They assured her that they would do everything possible to alleviate the damage caused. The doctors responsible for the error were suspended and the hospital launched an internal investigation. The Czech Ministry of Health expressed regret over the incident and deemed it an “unforgivable human factor,” suspending the individuals involved.
