Precision-Led Shrimp Farming: How Sensor Technology and AI Revolutionize Accurate Stock Counting

German shrimp RAS system embraces Danish shrimp counting technology

Shrimp farming can be a challenging task for farmers, especially when it comes to accurately counting their stock. Miscounts can lead to overstocking or understocking, which can impact the farm’s productivity. However, with the help of advanced sensor technology, artificial intelligence, and computer vision, shrimp farms can now count their shrimp with greater accuracy and ease.

One such company that has implemented this technology is HanseGarnelen, an RAS facility that faced the challenge of determining stocking density. Miscounts led to significant time wastage as workers were manually estimating shrimp numbers instead of focusing on more productive tasks. To address this issue, HanseGarneren invested in the SC-4K Shrimp Counter from Sincere Aqua.

The SC-4K Shrimp Counter is capable of counting 200,000 shrimp per hour with at least 95 percent accuracy for shrimp sizes between 0.1 and 5 grams. This technology ensures that each shrimp has enough space and the right level of feed to grow quickly and reduce the risk of diseases. The operations manager at HanseGarneren noted how significant time savings and accuracy improvements have been achieved since implementing the shrimp counter.

“With the SC-4K shrimp counter, farms are moving towards precision-led and sustainable aquaculture practices,” said Fridi Mellemgaard, CEO of Sincere Aqua. “At Sincere Aqua, we are proud to see how our technology is making a tangible difference in the lives of shrimp farmers.”
