Brownells of Poweshiek County has been recognized as Small Business of the Week by U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee. This recognition is part of an initiative by Ranking Member Ernst to highlight a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties throughout this Congress.

Brownells was founded in 1938 and has been a family-owned business for three generations. The company is based in Grinnell and sells gunsmithing tools and supplies, with over 50,000 gun parts available in the United States and worldwide. Brownells is known for its commitment to crafting firearms, ammunition, and specialized gunsmithing tools for marksmen and outdoorsmen. Their focus on selection, service, and satisfaction has helped them thrive both in Iowa and globally.

The Brownell family is also known for their advocacy for Second Amendment rights, with Pete Brownell having served as President of the National Rifle Association (NRA) from 2017 to 2018, and Frank Brownell receiving the NRA Golden Bullseye Pioneer Award. This year, Brownells will celebrate their 85th business anniversary, and Ranking Member Ernst expressed pride in recognizing them for their accomplishments.
