Postal Service U-Turns on Plan to Move Outgoing Mail Processing in Buffalo

USPS decides against relocating operations to Rochester

After a comprehensive review of operations at the Buffalo Processing and Distribution Center, the United States Postal Service has announced that it will not be making any changes to the facility. This decision includes keeping all existing originating processing operations, business mail entry, post office services, branch retail services, and delivery services in place.

Initially, concerns were raised about moving outgoing mail processing operations from William Street to a facility on Lyell Avenue in Rochester. However, this proposal faced fierce criticism from local, state, and federal leaders who argued that such a move would negatively impact services in Buffalo and local small businesses.

The proposed plan had some positive aspects as well – the William Street facility would have remained open as a local processing center, with no career employees losing their jobs. Additionally, there was a possibility of some non-career employees being cut under the plan. However, these concerns were not enough for the USPS to make any changes to the facility’s operations.

In response to these concerns raised by stakeholders, the USPS has decided to keep things as they are at the Buffalo Processing and Distribution Center. This decision ensures that there will be no disruptions or changes to the valuable services provided by this crucial postal facility in Buffalo.
