Poppi Prebiotics Soda Lawsuit: Can’s Health Benefits Overstated, Sugar Content Concerned

Lawsuit alleges that Poppi prebiotic soda may not be as healthy as advertised

In the Northern District of California, a lawsuit has been filed against VNGR Beverage LLC, the parent company of Poppi Prebiotics Soda. The lawsuit was initiated by plaintiff Kristin Cobbs of San Francisco on behalf of herself and other consumers.

Cobbs purchased the sodas because they were marketed as a prebiotic soda for a healthy gut. However, the lawsuit claims that the soda contains only two grams of prebiotics per can, which is not enough to provide meaningful health benefits for gut health. The lawsuit also argues that a consumer would need to drink more than four Poppi sodas in a day to potentially see any benefits.

The high sugar content of the soda could negate these benefits, according to the lawsuit. Studies suggest that consuming too much of the type of prebiotic found in Poppi could have adverse health effects, especially for individuals with digestive issues. The lawsuit refers to these studies and claims that Poppi’s advertising is misleading and deceptive.

Poppi was founded in 2016 as a healthier alternative to traditional sodas and gained popularity following an appearance on “Shark Tank.” The brand has been endorsed by celebrities such as Post Malone, Hailey Bieber, and Kylie Jenner. Scripps News has reached out to Poppi for comment on the lawsuit.
