Poozeum: A Museum Dedicated to the Unseen World of Coprolites Opens in Arizona

Arizona’s ‘Poozeum’ houses the world’s largest coprolite collection

George Frandsen, the owner of the world’s largest collection of coprolites, has finally opened his Poozeum in Arizona. He holds the Guinness World Record for his impressive collection, which includes over 8,000 fossilized feces from ancient animals. Initially, he had only 1,277 specimens and had been showcasing them in a virtual exhibit for years before opening a permanent location.

Frandsen noticed that coprolites were underrepresented in mainstream sources and museum exhibits. This sparked his mission to educate people on this unique aspect of paleontology. The Poozeum is now open to visitors and offers free admission to all. Frandsen quit his job in healthcare and moved his family from Florida to Arizona to pursue his dream of opening this museum.

The museum also features a dinosaur-themed gift shop that generates revenue to support its operations. Frandsen’s fascination with coprolites began when he was 18 years old and stumbled upon them at a rock store in Utah. He found them both amusing and fascinating, sparking his curiosity to learn more about these unique specimens that provide insights into ancient creatures’ diets, behaviors, and environments.
