Political Parties Strongly Condemn Traffic Accident Involving District Head Damir Dekani

Parliamentarians criticize Dekanić for slow response to new accident: ‘Faster reaction could have prevented this…’

In the aftermath of a recent traffic accident involving Vukovar-Srijem district head Damir Dekani, who was under the influence of alcohol, parliamentary representatives from various parties strongly condemned the incident.

SDP representatives expressed their belief that there is political responsibility for Dekani and for the HDZ party, emphasizing that politicians should act as role models for citizens. The Homeland Movement also condemned the incident and called for swift action to be taken by law enforcement.

Deputy Ivana Mujkić spoke out about the accident, expressing her regrets and stating that they had previously warned about such issues from a local political standpoint. She acknowledged the political, human, and legal responsibility regarding the accident but also highlighted that it ultimately comes down to Dekani’s own decision. Mujkić touched on the issue of Dekani’s status within the HDZ party but emphasized that she did not want to interfere in their decision-making process.

Nikola Grmoja, representing Mosta, emphasized the importance of holding politicians accountable for their actions, especially in cases where they pose a threat to others due to reckless behavior. He stressed the need for citizens to demand high standards from politicians and expressed his belief that politicians should serve as positive examples for the community.

Sandra Benčić, representing We can!, criticized the HDZ party for not taking appropriate action against Dekani despite his repeated violations of traffic regulations. She questioned whether it was acceptable for someone who disregarded laws and put lives at risk to remain in a position of authority. Benčić called for stricter enforcement of safety regulations and emphasized the need for serious consequences for those who break the law.

The growing concerns over repeated offenses by Dekani prompted an announcement from the HDZ party that they had asked him to resign from his position as district head.
