Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports and a renowned pizza reviewer, recently stopped by Carpanzano’s Pizzeria in Guilford, CT as part of his pizza tour around the state. Portnoy is well-known for his pizza reviews where he visits pizzerias unannounced, tries a plain pie, and scores it on a scale of 0-10. His reviews have gained a cult following, with his videos receiving hundreds of thousands of views.
During his visit to Carpanzano’s, Portnoy scored their plain cheese pie an impressive 8.2. He compared it to New Haven-style pizza and declared it one of the best he has tried so far on his tour. While he praised the quality of the pizza itself, he did note that using a paper towel while eating was something that could be improved upon.
According to Portnoy’s scale, if a pizzeria receives a score in the 8’s or above, it is definitely worth driving to. In addition to Carpanzano’s, Portnoy has also visited pizzerias in Madison, Middletown, Mystic, Niantic, and Old Lyme during his trip through CT. Carpanzano’s is located at 1200 Boston Post Road and offers a variety of dishes including appetizers, salads, subs, wraps, entrees and of course pizza along with daily specials available.
