Pittsburgh International Airport Enhances Security and Improves Efficiency with New Real-Time Photo ID Verification Technology

Enhanced technology at Pittsburgh International Airport streamlines TSA screening process

Pittsburgh International Airport has recently implemented new technology to improve efficiency and enhance security at its checkpoints. The latest generation of Credential Authentication Technology now scans a traveler’s photo ID, verifying their identity and flight details in real-time. Equipped with a camera, the new units capture a live photo of the traveler, which is then compared to the image on their ID.

With a confirmed match, a TSA officer can verify that the traveler can proceed through the checkpoint without needing to exchange their boarding pass. “Identity verification of every traveler prior to flying is a crucial step in the security screening process,” said Karen Keys-Turner, TSA’s federal security director for the airport. The technology increases efficiency by automatically verifying a passenger’s identification and enhances detection capabilities by comparing in-person photos with those on IDs.

Travelers are still required to check in with their airline and bring their boarding pass to the gate. However, those who prefer not to participate in facial matching can choose an alternative ID verification method.
