Phillies Bring Back Trea Turner: Excited to Have Shortstop, No. 2 Hitter Back in the Lineup; Edmundo Sosa Transitions to Super-Utility Role

Trea Turner comes back, Phillies send down Johan Rojas to Triple-A

Trea Turner, who had been sidelined for six weeks with a hamstring strain, has returned to the Phillies’ active roster. The team is excited to have him back and expect him to resume his role as the starting shortstop and No. 2 hitter behind Kyle Schwarber. Edmundo Sosa, who performed well in Turner’s absence, will transition back into a super-utility role for the team.

The decision to send Johan Rojas to Triple A created room for Turner on the active roster. Rojas will have the opportunity to play every day and work on improving his offensive performance. With Rojas now in Triple A, the Phillies are likely to use a platoon of Brandon Marsh and Cristian Pache in center field, with Whit Merrifield and David Dahl in left field. The team is looking for increased production from their outfield options as they continue their six-game homestand.

Sosa will also work on transitioning to the outfield during pregame sessions to provide the Phillies with another right-handed hitting option in left field or center field. The team is excited about this move as it gives them more versatility in their lineup and allows them to better match up against opposing pitchers. Overall, the Phillies are confident that this move will help them win more games and make a run at a playoff spot down the stretch of the season.
