Scottie Scheffler arrested by authorities during second round of PGA Championship | Golf News

On Friday, Scottie Scheffler was detained by police near Valhalla Golf Club before the second round of the PGA Championship. The delay in the start time for round two affected all players as a fatal accident near the course had occurred and Scheffler was stopped by police while trying to avoid the scene. There are unconfirmed reports that he has since been released.

The PGA Championship confirmed the delay in the start of round two due to a fatal collision involving a shuttle bus near Valhalla. A statement from the Louisville Metro Police Department revealed that the collision occurred when an adult male pedestrian was struck by a shuttle bus while crossing Shelbyville Road. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The police traffic unit is currently investigating the incident.

Scheffler, who was set to tee off at 1.48pm BST, had shot a four under 67 in his first round, leaving him five behind the leader Xander Schauffele. Despite being delayed, Scheffler remains a strong contender in the tournament, having already won The Masters and The Players Championship in 2024. He also recently became a father, adding to his personal accomplishments off the course.

The delay in the start time for round two affected all players, with inclement weather expected to further disrupt Friday’s play. The first group was scheduled to tee off at 12.15pm BST, but due to delays caused by accidents on Shelbyville Road and other reasons such as thunderstorms, it was pushed back until at least 1:30 pm BST
