Petrobras and Shearwater Join Forces to Advance Seismic Processing and Acquisition: Memorandum of Understanding

Collaboration between Petrobras and Shearwater to focus on seismic acquisition and processing research and technology development

In a significant development, Petrobras and Shearwater have announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for joint research and technology innovation in the field of seismic processing and acquisition. The agreement, which is valid for five years, aims to improve data quality, value, and efficiency in seismic acquisition projects. This collaboration builds upon previously announced partnerships between the two companies related to Marine Vibroseis and Reveal software licensing.

Under the MOU, Petrobras and Shearwater will establish a governance platform that supports their joint effort to develop new technologies that enhance insights into the subsurface and increase data value while reducing the time, cost, and environmental impact of seismic acquisition projects. According to Roberta Mendes, General Manager of R&D&I at Petrobras, this collaboration seeks to bolster their ongoing engagement in geophysical R&D and innovation while accelerating the exploration and development of energy resources. By leveraging advanced technologies together, they aim to significantly enhance geophysical technologies and achieve superior operational efficiency, ultimately driving innovation and sustainability within the industry.

Irene Basili, CEO of Shearwater, expressed her excitement about broadening her company’s collaboration with Petrobras. “Shearwater is a company driven by curiosity and the desire to answer questions,” she said. “Petrobras shares our commitment to seismic research and innovation.” Through this partnership, both companies hope to jointly solve big challenges that create long-term value for both companies and society at large.
