Petersburg Health Department Building to Reopen on Tuesday After Hazardous Odor Scare

After being closed for three weeks due to a potentially hazardous odor, the Petersburg Health Department building has been declared safe and will reopen on Tuesday. The recent roof repair at the Halifax Street facility may have caused the odor, prompting officials to prioritize the safety of staff and patients by closing the building.

Operations and clinics were temporarily relocated to other locations within the Crater Health District until the issue was resolved. However, only the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) programming continued at a different location for the next week. Beginning on June 3, clinics will resume at the Halifax Street location, with the exception of WIC programming which will still be held at the Virginia Community Resource Center on West Washington Street.

If you have any questions about appointment times or services, you can contact the department at (804) 863-1652 or visit their website at https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/crater/ for more information.
