Perseverance Rovers: Overcoming Challenges and Completing Important Science Campaign

USGS Scientist Ken Herkenhoff Provides Sol 512 Update on Curiosity Mission: Kodak

This weekend, we successfully completed a planned drive to position the rover for a comprehensive wheel imaging campaign. Initially, we had scheduled a short drive for Sol 512, but it turned out to be unnecessary, allowing us more time for contact science activities.

As we prepared for the day, our Science Theme Groups and I faced the challenge of adjusting our plans based on new data from the rover planners. Ultimately, we decided to add an extra APXS/MAHLI target for contact science, which included an overnight APXS integration on a target called “Kodak.”

This week, our planning is flexible and unrestricted due to the timing of the uplink. As a result, we had to start our planning session earlier than usual, beginning at 6:00 Pacific time this morning. Despite these challenges, we are confident that we will be able to make the necessary adjustments and prepare for a successful week ahead.
