The Penn National Race Course is set to host the $400,000 Penn Mile Stakes (G3T) on May 31, featuring 10 talented 3-year-olds competing in the spotlight. Among the contenders are First World War and Trikari, both graded stakes winners making their journey to Grantville, Pa.
First World War, owned by Qatar Racing and Hunter Valley Farm, will have Frankie Dettori as the jockey for the first time. The son of War Front is making his third consecutive grass appearance after experimenting on dirt. He recently won the Kitten’s Joy Stakes (G3T) at Gulfstream Park and placed ninth in the Transylvania Stakes (G3T) at Keeneland.
Trikari, owned by Amerman Racing, surprised many by winning the American Turf (G2T) at Churchill Downs at odds of 47-1. The son of Oscar Performance seems to be on an upward trajectory, with three wins in his last four starts.
The field also includes stakes winners Aspenite, Good Lord Lorrie, Please Advise, Set, and Freedom Principle. The Penn Mile Stakes and Penn Oaks, with post times of 7:45 and 7:10 p.m. ET, respectively, promise to be exciting races featuring top contenders like Pounce and Nice as Pie. Pounce will be looking to rebound from a disappointing performance in the Appalachian Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland while Nice as Pie aims to bounce back from having her win streak snapped in the Mamzelle Stakes at Churchill Downs.
